He noted that several memorandums of understanding were signed that helped strengthen commercial and economic ties between Hong Kong and the Middle East. He also said he was proud that Hong Kong will be the first city in Asia to host Saudi's Future Investment Initiative Institute event in December.

Since 2017, the Future Investment Initiative Institute has held its annual Future Investment Initiative in Riyadh, where political and economic issues were discussed.

Cheung also said Hong Kong "welcomed more cultural collaboration with our Saudi friends", and not just the commercial aspect. He also invited everyone to support the upcoming Aramco Team Series Golf sporting event in Hong Kong from Oct 6 to 8.

On the legal front, he said, "I would also like to take this opportunity to highlight our city's advantages as an international, and legal hub, particular, Hong Kong's tried and tested common law system, which provides a solid platform for business and investment links through Hong Kong."

Liu Guangyuan, deputy director of the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the Hong Kong SAR, also attended the ceremony and extended his greetings to Saudi Arabia's National Day and to Mr and Mrs Aljebreen.
