Chen said the white spoonbills were rarely seen in Xiamen in previous years. But more than 20 species have been spotted in the wetland this year.

As the local ecological environment improves, more migratory bird species are coming to spend the winter in Xiamen, the local bureau of natural resources and planning said.

However, the bureau noted that residents and tourists should keep a safe distance to avoid any safety hazards while observing the birds outdoors.
