Senior models shine in Chongqing wedding fashion show

A wedding dress fashion show featuring 110 senior male and female models was recently staged in Yubei district, Southwest China's Chongqing. All of the models were over 50, with the eldest being 79.

"I never expected to see a group of my peers over 50 being so confident and glamorous," said Wang Cuilan, a senior guest. "I see their love and passion for life. It is a great show."

"Many women, including my mother, never had the chance to wear a wedding dress when they were young, although they longed to do it very much," said Mao Yuanyuan, general manager of Chongqing Muqing Fashion Education Co, the sponsor. "So I'm putting on this show for them."

"It has fulfilled my long-held dream!" said 60-year-old Yang Hong, who took part in the show in a graceful wedding dress.

Notably, the event also attracted many senior male models who wore groom's suits.

Under a State Council regulation, the statutory retirement age for women who work in administrative positions is generally 55. Women in jobs that require physical labor can apply for retirement at age 50.

According to the local civil affairs bureau, Chongqing had 7.12 million seniors over 60 last year, accounting for 22 percent of the population. Chongqing has a relatively high population aging rate compared with the rest of the country.
