International Congress of Basic Science wraps up in Beijing

On Friday, 2024, the International Congress of Basic Science concluded successfully at the Beijing Institute of Mathematical Sciences and Applications in Huairou Science City, Beijing. The conference attracted more than 1,000 scientists from China and around the world, and featured over 500 plenary reports, various academic sessions, and satellite meetings.

The international conference lasted for 13 days, attended by renowned scientists and scholars from home and abroad, including Fields Medalist, Turing Award winners, Nobel Laureates and dozens of members of national academies of different countries. They exchanged the latest development in the three major fields of basic science, namely mathematics, theoretical physics, and theoretical computer and information science. The gathering aims to promote interdisciplinary and international scientific cooperation. The six recipients of the 2024 Basic Science Lifetime Award delivered keynote reports on their respective fields, sparking heated discussions among scholars.

ICBS chairman, Fields Medalist Shing-Tung Yau said: "This is an important event for promoting the development of basic science and strengthen international scientific cooperation. For scientists, it is an academic feast of thoughts, ideas of the edgy scientific development, that could help them achieve new breakthroughs.
