Macao residents' monthly employment earnings reaches $1,250

MACAO - The median monthly employment earnings of Macao's residents reached 10,000 patacas ($1,250) in the first quarter of 2010, the same level as the previous quarter, according to the figures released on Thursday by the city's Statistics and Census Service (DSEC).

Macao's total labor force stood at 323,300 at the end of March 2010, of which 313,800 were employed while 9,500 were unemployed.

The median monthly employment earnings of the employed, comprising those of the local residents and non-local workers, amounted to 9,000 patacas for the first quarter, the DSEC figures indicated.

Analyzed by industry, the majority of the employed were engaged in recreational, cultural, gaming and other services (23.4 percent) and hotels, restaurants and similar activities (14.3 percent).

As for the unemployed, 94.1 percent were searching for a new job and 5.9 percent were fresh labor force entrants searching for their first job.

With regard to educational attainment, 40.2 percent had primary education or lower, 30.7 percent had junior secondary education and 19.6 percent had senior secondary education, according to the DSEC.
