Hitachi is joining forces with the government for a nationwide program of energy saving and emission reduction in small and medium-sized enterprises.

An agreement has been reached between Hitachi, Hitachi (China) and the National Development and Reform Commission for joint efforts to cut energy consumption.

According to the agreement, some cities will be chosen by the three sides for model projects. A working group will be established to be in charge of selecting 50 small and medium-sized enterprises in the cities through energy inspections.

Hitachi and Hitachi (China) will provide a plan for technology renovation of each enterprise according to the inspection results. The experience will be expanded to all enterprises in the cities concerned if the trial operation is successful.

The program also includes activities for technology exchanges, energy-saving testing and investigation and technical training.

Hitachi technology, products and solutions are expected to help cities reach their goal of cutting energy consumption.

The program will last two years, and the period will be extended upon agreement by the three sides, Hitachi said.

The model projects will be developed based on the experience of Yunnan-Hitachi energy-saving and emission-reduction demonstration program started in September 2007.

Hitachi and Hitachi (China) provided two frequency transformer systems to Kunming Iron and Steel Co Ltd in Yunnan province, and the project went into trial operation this week.
