An 11-year-old boy in Wendeng of Shandong Province lied to teachers that he had been kidnapped in a bid to evade punishment for not finishing homework.

Li reported to police on Monday morning that he was stopped by two strangers on his way to school, who bound him, taped up his mouth, asked for his home telephone number and then set him free.

After investigations, police failed to find any witnesses to the "kidnap." Li's teacher suspected that it was a figment of his imagination.

Li has finally confessed that he made up the story because he had not done homework and was afraid of being punished by the teacher.
