A Shenzhen bus company has sparked a great controversy among locals after it refused to recruit the drivers whose names include the Chinese characters of "yong" and "xiong," meaning "brave" and "hero" in Chinese.

All the candidates with these names were turned down for drivers' posts at a recent job fair in this southern metropolis.

The bus company claimed that drivers whose names include these two characters were responsible for a number of accidents in recent years.

But local residents have accused the bus company of discrimination.
