Romantic halo appears in sky

A rare solar halo was seen in the sky above Guangzhou, capital of Guangdong Province, on Tuesday.

The spectacle appeared at about noon. A round red ball was seen circled by a big purple ring near the sun, creating a romantic scene in the sky.

Local meteorological experts explained the solar halo was a phenomenon of atmospheric optics. It was the first complete solar halo found above Guangzhou in many years.

The wonderful sight, which lasted more than 3 hours, attracted local residents. It disappeared at about 2 pm.
