It took 12 fire fighters more than three hours to rescue a water buffalo that fell into a dried well in Liuzhou, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, on Sunday.

The buffalo's owner, surnamed Chen, had to dial the local 110 emergency hotline for help when his 400-kilogram buffalo fell into the dried well, 4 metres deep, at about noon.

The fire fighters faced a herculean task rescuing the buffalo. Many villagers were drawn to the scene to watch.
