A young man with a master's degree from a reputed university in Shanghai recently surprised his schoolmates and friends by choosing to work as a city patrol, an occupation widely believed to be tiresome and require little professional knowledge.

Starting in July, Li, a graduate from Shanghai Jiaotong University who majored in pedagogy, patrolled streets every day and served as a guard at the Shanghai South Railway Station. Li had worked in a joint venture, but soon quit as he could not accept the culture in the company.

Li said he was satisfied with his new job, noting that through it he could really do something for society and achieve his life values.
