A cautious fruit vendor in Nanjing who buried banknotes in a park to keep them from being stolen was reported to police on Saturday as a guard thought he was burying a bomb.

Wang earned about 3,000 yuan (US$375) on Saturday by selling fruit. He buried the money in a park at that night. He walked about 100 metres away, then noticed a park guard at the place he had hidden the money. He was trying to stop the guard unearthing what he had buried when police arrived at the park after receiving a report that somebody was suspected of burying a bomb in the park.

The matter was cleared up after Wang took out the money and explained that he had buried it because he had twice been robbed.
