University students in Changsha, Hunan Province, are trying to revitalize their ability to write Chinese characters, which is being slowly eroded with the use of computers.

Students in a computer science class recently held a test where they had to write 20 Chinese characters. Some failed to write many of the words, even the simple ones.

Experts said handwriting ability is dropping as most students now use computers instead of writing by hand.

They suggested all university students in the province spend at least five minutes a day practising their handwriting.
