BUENOS AIRES -- Chinese Minister of Science and Technology Wan Gang said here Sunday that China and Latin American countries have different characteristics and advantages in bioenergy exploration and enjoy broad cooperation prospects.

In an interview with Xinhua, Wan said that with rising world oil prices and growing concern for fuel pollution, many countries are conducting bioenergy exploration and application.

In its bioenergy development, the Chinese government abides by three principles, namely, not using grain resources, not occupying agricultural lands and not affecting ecological environment. This practice is winning broader and broader recognition worldwide.

Wan said Latin American countries use their own methods and have special experience in bioenergy exploration. The Chinese government hopes that both sides will reinforce cooperation in this regard.

Argentine Minister of Science and Technology Lino Baranao is scheduled to visit China in February. He will be arranged to visit some Chinese bioenergy facilities during the tour.
