NEW YORK: Chinese President Hu Jintao and his Turkmen counterpart Gurbanguly Berdymukhamedov met here on Monday to discuss the development of friendly and cooperative ties between the two nations.

The two leaders were meeting on the sidelines of a series of UN meetings in New York.

Since the establishment of diplomatic ties in 1992, relations between China and Turkmenistan have enjoyed steady development, and their pragmatic cooperation has been fruitful in various fields.

Last August, Hu paid a state visit to Turkmenistan, during which he and Berdymukhamedov agreed to expand bilateral cooperation in various fields.
