The Ministry of Railways (MOR) ordered 140 electronic multiple units (EMUs) with a speed of 350 km/h from two subsidies of China CNR Corporation (CNR), a major train manufacturer, chinanews.com reported Tuesday.

An EMU is a set of train cars powered by an electronic locomotive.

CNR also signed a large contract earlier this year with the MOR. The company's total orders are now approximately 80 billion yuan ($11.72 billion), and the firm will manufacture a total 400 EMUs, the report said.

CNR is the only train manufacturer capable of producing high-speed EMUs reaching a speed of 350 km/h in China.
