In a bid to secure the safety of dairy products, China's Ministry of Health on Thursday canceled rules that melamine may be added to dairy products in limited amounts, the People's Daily reported.
On Thursday, the ministry issued 66 new national standards for the safety of dairy products, which are expected to form a unified national system.
Melamine-related rules were canceled in the new standards, meaning that adding any amount of melamine to dairy products would be illegal, according to the newspaper.
Canceling the rules that allow any amount of melamine in dairy products was an obvious decision, said Wang Dingmian, chairman of Guangzhou's dairy association.
