TAIPEI - The Taiwan-based Straits Exchange Foundation (SEF) announced Tuesday that it is to donate $1 million for the rehabilitation of mainland regions hit by serious floods and landslides this summer.
Taiwan expected the money to be used to restore the normal life of affected people, the statement said.
A number of provinces and regions on the mainland were hit by serious floods and landslides this summer. A devastating landslide hitting Zhouqu county of Northwest Guansu province on August 8 killed 1,435 people and left 330 missing.
The SEF delivered a message of condolences to the ARATS on August 8 and the Red Cross Society in Taiwan started a month-long fund raising campaign for the landslide victims on August 12 and donated $100,000 to the mainland, according to the SEF statement.
