Chinese vice premier meets Cisco chairman

BEIJING - Chinese Vice Premier Zhang Dejiang met in Beijing Wednesday with John Chambers, chairman and chief executive officer (CEO) of Cisco Systems Inc.

Zhang said that he appreciated Cisco's long-term cooperation with China's information and telecommunication industries.

"China has listed new generation information technology to be one of its strategic industries for cultivation and development, and has stepped up its construction of the next-generation national information infrastructure featuring broadband, integration, security and ubiquitous computing service," Zhang said.

Zhang said China is committed to integrating its industrial and information technology sectors in a bid to advance the information-oriented development of different aspects in economy.

The Chinese vice premier hoped Cisco to continue to give full play to its advantages, further its mutually beneficial cooperation with China and promote the smooth growth of China-US economic and trade relations and indsutrial cooperation by seizing the opportunities of development.

Chambers said Cisco would continue to actively invest in China and enhance its cooperation with China in areas such as research and development, manufacturing and personnel training, in order to make a contribution to the sustainable development of the country's economy.
