Bus-truck collision killed 14 in E China

NANJING - The death toll from a collision between a tourist bus and a truck in East China's Jiangsu province on Sunday morning has risen to 14 after a severely injured passenger died in hospital, local authorities announced Monday.

The accident occurred at 9:25 am, when a bus from Shanghai cut through barriers at a section of the Yanjiang Expressway in Changshu city and collided with a truck travelling in the opposite direction.

The crash killed 13 people and injured 21 others.

One of the injured passengers died in hospital late Sunday night, bringing the death toll to 14, a local traffic police spokesman confirmed.

The conditions of the other hospitalized people, including three suffering serious injuries, have been described as stable as they continue to be treated at a local hospital.

The Ministry of Public Security and the State Administration of Work Safety have dispatched staff to Changshu to investigate the accident, the police spokesman said.
