The awards gala for the first photography and composition competition among foreign students and faculty in China was held at the Beijing Foreign Studies University on April 26.

Nine photos and nine stories about their impressions of China received awards. More than 1,000 foreign students and faculty from 21 countries took part in the competition.

Ian Joseph Cammack, an award-winner who has returned to England, sent a video clip to the ceremony saying that the competition made him care more about change in China - not only big accomplishments but also the ones in his life such as the change in seasons in Beijing.

Alex Reed, a student at Capital Normal University, was very proud for her friend who won the competition, adding that she wishes to have an opportunity to join the competition next time.

"It is a very good opportunity to meet more friends," she said.

Cui Yuying, deputy director of the State Council Information Office, said in a speech during the gala that the photos and stories are mirrors of the authors' lives in China, and recorded the country's change.

"The competition builds a friendship bridge between Chinese people and international friends," she added.
