40 trapped after SW China coal mine accident

GUIYANG - About 40 miners were trapped in a coal mine when the mine's tunnel collapsed on Thursday afternoon in Southwest China's Guizhou province, local authorities said.

The accident occurred at around 2:30 pm Thursday at Anlilai Coal Mine in Pu'an county. Some miners managed to escape safely, but an estimated 40 others were trapped underground.

Rescue work is underway and the number of trapped miners is being verified.

The mine, located in Louxia township of Pu'an county, has an annual production capacity of 210,000 tonnes.
