Magnitude 5.1 quake hits Xinjiang

BEIJING - A 5.1-magnitude earthquake jolted a county in the Mongolian Autonomous Prefecture of Bayingolin in northwest Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region at 10:08 p.m. (Beijing time) on Friday, the China Earthquake Networks Center (CENC) reported.

The epicenter was monitored at 38.7 degrees north latitude and 88.0 degrees east longitude with a depth of 9 km, according to the CENC.

The U.S. Geological Survey put the earthquake at 5.3 magnitude.
