Shenzhen Customs and the Shenzhen airport signed a memorandum of cooperation on Monday to strengthen the fight against drug trafficking, as more smugglers have been using international flights to bring in drugs.

The memorandum states that the two sides will meet regularly, especially to discuss serious cases.

Customs officers will have access to the luggage image inspection room in the airport security department to watch the luggage of passengers on key suspected flights.

Both sides will also hold joint drills to improve their ability to quickly respond to emergencies such as terrorism, epidemics, violence, fire and serious traffic jams.

Customs officers have successfully dealt with two drug smuggling cases in March and September 2012, under the cooperation of the Shenzhen airport security department.

Since 2011, Shenzhen Customs has exposed 53 cases of drug smuggling and seized 90,545 grams of drugs.
