Left-behind children from Guizhou province, accompanied by their grand parents, arrived in Guangzhou on Tuesday to reunite with their parents for the Spring Festival holiday.

"I have not celebrated Spring Festival with my son and grandchildren for 17 years," Xu Renchang, 62, said. His son has worked elsewhere for 18 years and only returned home once for Lunar New Year.

Organized and sponsored by Jinsha Huisha wine group, a liquor company in Guizhou, the activity aims to help long-separated families reunite.

Five left-behind children from two families in Hezhang county, Guizhou, safely arrived in Guangzhou, the capital of Guangdong province, on Tuesday.

"With the rapid development of recent years, the gap between Guizhou and the eastern coastal regions is narrowing," Xu said, adding that his biggest wish is that his son could return home to work so the family can reunite every year.
