Beijing's environmental watchdog on Friday named 114 institutes and companies that were found violating environmental regulations in a one-week inspection early this month.

The canteen of the State Administration of Cultural Heritage was on top of the list, the Beijing Municipal Environmental Protection Bureau said on its website.

From June 3 to 9, the bureau checked 1,305 institutions, 849 of which are catering and auto repair companies. The bureau filed penalties for 114 companies that violated environmental protection rules, with the fines amounting to about 2.45 million yuan ($394,500), according to the bureau's website.

Such violations include the lack of or malfunction of waste gas treatment facilities, or such facilities have not received administrative approval.

The bureau said the canteen of the State Administration of Cultural Heritage is equipped with purification facilities, but the facilities have not been evaluated and approved by the bureau.

Residents living near the canteen had previously reported it for emitting oil and smoke, which was confirmed by the bureau as well.
