Kunming, the capital of Yunnan province, will enact a 72-hour-visa-free policy that has been approved by the State Council, City Times reported on Thursday.

Implementation is underway after the policy was approved by the Ministry of Public Security.

Transit passengers holding valid visas and onward tickets to a third country will be able to stay visa-free in the administrative area of Kunming for three days. Travelers from 51 countries including the United States, Britain and Australia are eligible under the policy.

Kunming is the ninth city to implement such a policy, joining Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Chengdu, Chongqing, Shenyang, Dalian and Xi'an.
