The Chinese police transferred a Japanese mafia member suspected of drug dealing to its Japanese counterpart in Guangzhou city on Tuesday.

Ryuji Hasegawa, 46, a member of Japan's largest organized crime syndicate Yamaguchi-gumi, was captured by local police in August 2013, China Central Television reported.

Officials from both countries' police authorities signed paperwork at the airport for the transfer.

The Japanese suspect has a record of robbery, murder and drug dealing.

He has been accused of ordering another Japanese citizen to smuggle 15,152 Ecstasy pills from Shanghai to Japan.
