Strong quake strikes SW China's Yunnan

The 6.6-magnitude quake that hit Yunnan has left one dead and 336 injured, of whom eight are seriously hurt, as of 8:50 am Wednesday, Yunnan Information Daily reported. Casualties were reported mainly from the epicenter in Jinggu county.

President Xi Jinping has ordered an all-out rescue effort in the Southwest China province.

One person died and 324 others were injured after a 6.6-magnitude quake jolted Southwest China's Yunnan province Tuesday night, according to local government.

A total of 92,700 people in Jinggu were affected, and 56,880 of them have been relocated, said an official with the county's publicity department.

Yunnan has initiated the Class-I emergency response, the highest, sending rescue staff and materials to the affected areas.
