Filipino detained for drug trafficking

NINGBO, Zhejiang - A Filipino has been detained on suspicion of drug trafficking at Ningbo customs in east China's Zhejiang Province, authorities said on Wednesday.

The man, Andrew, drew the attention of customs officers by attempting to skip the x-ray scan at Ningbo Yueshe Airport. Officers then found 5 kilograms of methamphetamine in his luggage.

According to preliminary investigation, the man was about to carry the drugs back to the Philippines through Hong Kong.

Further investigation is underway.

Drug trafficking is a felony in China. Those convicted of trafficking more than 50 grams of heroin can face capital punishment.
