Rong Guotuan won the man-singe gold in the 25th table-tennis world championship on May 4th, 1959. Rong was the first world sport-champion in China.

Qiu Zhonghui won the china's first female-single gold in the 26th world table-tennis championship in 1961.

In 1961, China held its first table-tennis world championship games in Beijing. this was the indoor stadium for this game.
