Xinjiang seeks urgent cash aid for quake victims

China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region has made an urgent call for financial aid and relief supplies to rebuild and help victims of Monday morning's devastating earthquake in the west of the region.

Regional departments and organizations released bank account details and telephone numbers Wednesday to accept both domestic and overseas donations as follows:

The earthquake measuring 6.8 on the Richter scale struck several counties including Jiashi and Bachu at 10:03 Monday, leaving at least 266 dead and over 2,055 injured.

Donations totaling more than ten million yuan (1.2 million US dollars) from both overseas and China, including Hong Kong, have been received by the region, according to the regional civil affairs department.
