Job market discrimination

China Daily | Updated: 2008-12-06 08:03

Discrimination and the economic downturn have made it even more difficult for some to obtain jobs. Measures should be taken to rectify the situation, says an article in Wuhan Evening Post. The following is an excerpt:

An insurance company was recently criticized for its discriminative recruitment policies. As professor Cai Dingjian with China University of Political Science and Law recently pointed out, age limits, preferences for Party members, demobilized soldiers, teachers and lawyers were just some examples of such discrimination.

The most common is gender preference. Others include educational degrees, political background, height, looks, and registered residence.
