China hopes to host 2010 World Exposition
( 2001-11-10 11:46 ) (8 )

China has made the decision to bid for the 2010 World Exposition after careful consideration, said State Councilor Wu Yi in Shanghai on Friday.

If China wins the bid, the Chinese Government will do its best to ensure the success of the exposition, said Wu, who heads the Chinese Committee for the bid for the 2010 World Exposition, in a meeting with Vicente Gonzalez Loscertales, secretary-general of the International Expositions Bureau (IEB).

If the event is held in China, it will provide the country with a wider stage for international exchanges, said Wu

Shanghai, China's economic and financial center, will represent China and compete with five other nations, including Russia and the Republic of Korea, for the hosting of the exposition.

Wu said that she believed the competition would be fair and that in the bid China would abide by the IEB regulations and other international rules.

Loscertales, who had participated in the activities at the World Horticulture Exposition in Kunming of southwest China's Yunnan Province in 1999, said he witnessed the Chinese people's enthusiasm for work.

He wished China success in bidding for the World Exposition.
