Last SARS patient recovers in S. China's Shenzhen
( 2003-06-11 10:11) (8)

The last person among the 53 infected with severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) in Shenzhen of south China's Guangdong Province recovered and left the hospital on Tuesday.

The city, a major overland port to Hong Kong, found a total 53 SARS patients since February 8 and has reported no new cases in the past month, according to the local public health administration.

Among the 53 patients, one died, four moved to hospitals elsewhere and the rest were restored to health.

As one of the first cities hit by SARS, disease control in Shenzhen was considered effective since it has a total population of 7 million and 400,000 people come and go every day.

So far no medical worker has caught the disease in Shenzhen.
