Soccer-Chelsea rule out Eriksson move
( 2003-07-14 10:55) (Reuters)

Chelsea moved on Sunday to quash speculation that they want to bring England coach Sven-Goran Eriksson to Stamford Bridge.

The premier league club's new Russian billionaire owner Roman Abramovich met with Eriksson last week, prompting media reports that he wanted the Swede to replace Italian Claudio Ranieri as Chelsea coach.

"There is no truth in the rumour that we are trying to bring Sven-Goran Eriksson to Chelsea," chief executive Trevor Birch told the west London club's official website.

"Claudio Ranieri is the coach, he has four years remaining on his contract, he has just got us into the Champions League and has already had a very positive meeting with Roman Abramovich. Together we have charted the Chelsea path forward."

Eriksson pledged his full commitment to the England job last week and the Football Association (FA) repeated his statement on their official website on Sunday.
