Pranks account for 80% of 119 calls

Shanghai Youth Daily reports that about 800 of the 1,000 calls made to the
119 fire department hotline every day are pranks by bored children or adults
with either mental or other problems.
About 10 per cent of the hoax calls come from school-aged children who are on
summer vacation while their parents are out working.
The fire department plans to educate children who play such pranks as well as
their parents, while adults who repeatedly obstruct the line with nuisance calls
will be punished with 10 days in police custody.
