Medical fraud in radio call-in shows ( 2003-08-07 11:36) (China Daily) Twenty-five medical
institutes have been blacklisted for promoting medicines or treatments in the
form of radio call-in shows, reports Guangzhou Daily.
The Guangdong Provincial Sanitation Supervision Institute recorded 41 such
radio shows broadcast over two consecutive nights - July 27 and 28. All of the
programmes were found to be in violation of medical advertising regulations for
making "false or grossly exaggerated" statements about their products.
To convince the listening audience of a product's merits, the sponsors of
such call-in shows often pay people to ring up and expound on the effectiveness
of the medicines or treatments featured in the programmes.
