Officials say 'no' to multiple births
( 2003-08-12 10:33) (China Daily)

Health care experts have been receiving many calls from locals seeking in vitro fertilization (IVF) services, inspired by the recent birth of quadruplets in the city.

But experts are saying "no" to these requests.

Xinmin Evening News reports that some people, most of whom possess normal childbearing capabilities, are demanding IVF services from their doctors.
To ensure the best rate of success, three to four eggs are usually fertilized at the beginning of such a procedure.

According to medical regulations, only one or two eggs can ultimately be kept until the end to ensure success. Many women, however, refuse to allow the extra eggs to be withdrawn once they have been implanted in the womb.
