Business fair planned in Jiangsu ( 2003-08-13 09:45) (CHina Daily)
More than 2,000 overseas business people will attend an annual trade fair next month in East China's Jiangsu Province, one of the industrial powerhouses in the country. The 2003 Jiangsu International Business Promotion Month and Nanjing Golden Autumn Economic and Trade Fair will kick off on September 19 in Nanjing, capital of East China's Jiangsu Province neighbouring Shanghai, according to Nanjing Vice-Mayor Li Fuquan. Speaking at a press conference yesterday in Beijing, Li said the business promotion event has been revamped to focus on a series of high-level seminars, forums and business talks during its 14th session, to be held from September 19 to October 30. "The event is an important platform for investors around the globe to share the latest investment information and extend their business opportunities in the Yangtze River Delta region,'' Li said. "We are aiming to bring more overseas enterprises together to understand this ancient city and promote Nanjing's entry into the world market.'' As one of the four key cities along the Yangtze River (the others are Shanghai, Wuhan and Chongqing), Nanjing owns more than 200 kilometres worth of river coastline, a complete modern communications network and a comprehensive transportation system. Last year, the city's gross domestic product amounted to 129.5 billion yuan (US$15.66 billion), up 12.5 per cent over the previous year. It also approved 401 new overseas-funded projects, including 106 projects each with investment figures of US$10 million or more. Up to now, Nanjing has hosted 7,407 projects from 78 countries and regions with contractual investment of US$14.8 billion.
