Express package blackmail scheme
( 2003-08-15 11:13) (China Daily)

Three migrant workers employed by a package delivery firm were arrested on August 5 for attempting to blackmail the company by holding several parcels hostage, reports Beijing Daily.

Qin Jianbo, Li Guangxi and Li Yanlong got to know each other while working in Beijing, but they lost their jobs one after another.

Li Yanlong, who was once employed by a delivery firm, told the other two they could extort money from such companies, which had to compensate clients handsomely for packages lost in transit.

Qin and Li Jianbo both managed to get hired by Li Yanlong's former company.

On August 5, the second week into their jobs, Qin and Li Jianbo withheld 115 express mail packages and called the company demanding 70,000 yuan (US$8,400) to release the items. The three were arrested later that day.
