Sand fails to revive shock victim
( 2003-08-15 14:54)

Colleagues of a man who suffered electric shock on Wednesday buried him in some sand in the belief that it could help revive him, reports Nanguo Morning Post.

At about 9 am, Wei, the keeper of a fish stall at a market in Liuzhou, Guangxi, accidentally dropped a bicycle pump into a nearby fish-raising pond. But the pond was protected by an electric fence, and when he tried to quickly snatch the pump back, he was electrocuted.

His wife and several other stallkeepers were at a loss as to how to help him, until someone suggested burying him under some sand. The man was dead by the time emergency medical staff arrived.

Doctors said the sand-burying remedy was scientifically groundless and could have made the man's condition worse.
