Cheap patrons get no good treatment
( 2003-08-18 14:52) (China Daily)

Sadly, waiters treating customers who order inexpensive meals with contempt is not unusual in China.

But one restaurant manager went so far as to tear an order apart in front of a group of patrons, telling waitresses to clear their tables, according to a Guangzhou Daily report.

Geng led a tour group of 30 to Dajiao Bay in Yangjiang and booked three tables at Xincheng Dai Pai Dong near the resort.

The waitress frowned after Geng refused a 100-yuan (US$12) fish dish she recommended, Geng said.

After Geng finished ordering and the waitress realized that the total sales would come to about 220 yuan (US$26.50) per table, she threw the order to the ground and turned away.

The shocked Geng complained to the manager but only received more humiliating treatment - the woman picked up the order, ripped it in half and snapped:

"Ignore them. Clear the tables!"

They were not served until Geng ordered more dishes and other customers started pointing fingers at the manager, Geng said.
