Hawker's baby left behind in flight
( 2003-08-20 10:36)

An illegal hawker left a baby alone at her stall when urban management officers arrived to clear the underground marketplace, reports Beijing Times.

As soon as officers appeared at the underground passage at Anzhen Bridge, the unlicensed stallkeepers and peddlers doing business there wrapped up their goods and fled as usual.

But one woman who sold cellphone protectors left her baby at her stall and went off with the goods. Officers stayed and looked after the sleeping baby until the woman returned two hours later.

Officers guessed that the woman left the child behind to make both fleeing and resuming business easier after the officers left. They assumed she did not expect them to stay and watch the baby so long.
