The temperature on August 19 may have been 35 degrees centigrade outside, but 13 passengers inside an air-conditioned bus suffered from frostbite, Shanghai Morning Post reports.

At about 8:00 am, Bus 929 was driving across the Nanpu Bridge when a hissing sound, like gas leaking, suddenly filled the air.

Gradually, a white mist began filling the compartment from the back of the bus. The skin of all of the passengers who came into contact with the mist instantly froze.

In response to their complaints, the driver stopped immediately and asked everyone to disembark.

Police arrived to discover a cracked metal canister containing compressed Freon. Thirteen passengers whose skin had broken out in red spots were sent to hospital immediately.

Liang, an air-conditioner repairman who was transporting the Freon on the bus, suffered injury to his eyes.
