Typhoon Krovanh approaches south China provinces
( 2003-08-25 09:09) (Xinhua)

Typhoon Krovanh will hit the area between Wanning City in east Hainan Province and Dianbai County in west Guangdong Province from Sunday night.

The center of the typhoon was located at sea 550 kilometers southeast of Hainan Province at 2 p.m. Sunday and is moving at 20 km per hour towards the island province, according to Hainan Provincial Meteorological Observatory.

The wind at the eye of the storm was monitored at force 12, with the speed equivalent to 35 meters per second.

Krovanh, named after a Cambodian tree, grew out of tropical storm Krovanh on Friday morning and has become the most powerful tropical cyclone affecting Hainan Province this year, the observatory said.
