Forged authentication papers found ( 2003-08-25 11:32) (HK Edition) The Certificate
Authentication Department of the Shenzhen Talent Market has discovered that
forgeries are being made of its own documents, reports Shenzhen Commercial
Daily.
The department was initially set up to check diplomas submitted by job
applicants for authenticity, as counterfeit degrees have become more prevalent.
Now document fabricators are forging the department's testimonies as well.
The forgery skills are getting better and better, too, said Chen, director of
the department.
Some fake diplomas are so good that hardly any physical flaws are detectable,
so the department must increasingly rely upon online resources to verify whether
a diploma is genuine.
About 5 per cent of the more than 44,000 diplomas and certificates sent to
the department for examination in the first half of this year were found to be
fake, said the newspaper.
