Cab drivers manipulate cameras
( 2003-08-26 11:40) (China Daily)

Police suspect that monitoring cameras installed at the Capital International Airport are being manipulated by "black taxi" drivers trying to keep an eye on police movements in their cat-and-mouse game, reports Beijing Times.

Unlicensed taxi operators often pick up passengers at the airport illegally, according to a videotape released by airport police on Saturday.

The black taxi brokers are apparently aware of the monitoring cameras, as they often glanced directly at the cameras during their activities, the video showed.

Police suspect some of the cameras are being controlled by these "mice", as they frequently disperse as soon as an officer appears in the airport hall.

Police have also noticed cameras deliberately turned in the direction of the police station. Although control room camera operators readjust them, the cameras eventually end up pointed at the police station again.
