First hospital for Taiwan businessmen ( 2003-08-26 16:30) (China Daily) A hospital exclusively for the
use of people from Taiwan will be built in Dongguan, reports Guangzhou Daily.
The Taiwan Businessmen's Association will invest US$35 million to build the
Taishang Hospital, meaning "Taiwan businessmen's hospital", the first of its
kind on the mainland. Construction is expected to start before the end of the
year, disclosed Chen Mingzhi, secretary of the association.
There are no restrictions on hiring doctors from any particular region of the
country. Foreigners, as well as mainlanders, are eligible to work at the
hospital.
Some 40,000 Taiwan investors, workers and their families live in Dongguan,
which is also home to the first school for Taiwan children on the mainland.
The city had registered 5,547 Taiwan-invested companies by the end of June,
accounting for nearly one-quarter of Taiwan's investment on the
mainland.
