Alternative ringtones for cellphones, such as a cat's meow or a dog's bark, an ambulance siren or an explosion have become commonplace. But what about the sound of someone breaking wind?

Huang told Xinmin Evening News of his embarrassing encounter with just such a sound several days ago.

He was in an elevator on his way to a business meeting in a building in Nanchang when the very obvious sound of someone passing gas filled the narrow carriage. The five other passengers all looked at one other in their embarrassment.

It was not until the sound cut through the air a second time and a young man pulled out his cellphone and spoke into it, that Huang realized where it had come from.
